When I was a young girl, 3 or 4, my favourite book was ‘The Enchanted Woods’ by Shirley Barber. It was also about a young girl but this one stumbled upon a ring of toadstools – a fairy ring – and was transported to a magical world where she was to attend a fairy wedding. Honestly the story is a bit clichéd but the illustrations were beautiful! They captured my imagination perfectly on paper – okay board, it was a board book – and it allowed me to escape into a world of wonder. Ever since then I’ve loved the woods, its mystery, the stories it whispers and the silence of the trees who know that they know more than you ever will. I don’t have a copy of that book any more but for the last few years I’ve been trying to hunt it down – to no avail mind you – and that is the meaning behind my url.
