Being a Uni student comes with its perks, concession tickets for public transport, the movies and just about anywhere really. They also allow you to join 3rd party companies that promise further deals and discounts to lessen that hole in your pocket but which ones are more worth it?

StudentEdge is not just for Uni students but can also be used by high schoolers. It is free to join and you get to choose between 5 different card colours. They have 65 deals/discounts at the moment that range from food to clothes to tech to entertainment and to travel. Highlight deals (for me at least) include:

  • Free medium drink when spending $3+ at McDonalds
  • $13 movie tickets at Hoyts
  • 10% off Medina, Rendezvous, Vibe, Travelodge and Adina hotels/apartments
  • 10% off MissShop Myer
StudentEdge also has frequent comps where you can win vouchers, tickets and tech just by answering a question. They also have a 'Jobs' tab which lists casual and part time jobs in your local area, if you are looking for a bit of extra cash. Another neat thing they do, is give insights into different career paths and different universities, incase you are unsure about what the future holds.

Overall, I think that joining StudentEdge is definitely worth it, especially considering that it is free. Some of the discounts are available for all students regardless, but their comps and other deals are usually exclusive.

I Heart Uni involves the majority of universities around Australia. The fee to join is $10 (a one-off payment) but during OWeek you can get a 2 for $15 deal. I Heart Uni hosts parties for uni students and a silver card will get you $5 off the general admission price, and you can purchase the tickets earlier (tickets sell out quite quickly). I think the downfall to this program is its deals and discounts. It only has 16 and most are only for stores in particular locations and for clubs.

Unless you are the type of person that enjoys frequent clubbing/drinking/partying, it would pretty much be a bit of plastic in your wallet.

UniDays is a global perks website. It is free to join and has over 40 discount deals. Most of these deals are for online clothing but it also gives deals to international brands. It has a rewards system as well for when you refer your friends to sign up.

Overall, as joining up is free, it couldn't hurt to take the 2 minutes to do so, just remember that it's still around when you go online shopping.
